Santa Barbara Eyecare opened the community in 2017 and hopes to provide excellent service with highly trained staff, advanced equipment, electronic medical recording, and exceptional doctors. Santa Barbara Eyecare is an independent practice located inside Magnolia Center, owned and operated by Dr. Cailyn Katsev and Dr. Carter Andersen.
Optometrist
Dr. Carter Andersen is a graduate of Southern California College of Optometry and has been practicing primary care optometry in Santa Barbara and Goleta since 2011. A native of Santa Barbara, Dr. Andersen is an alumnus of both UC Santa Barbara and San Marcos High School. Prior to earning his doctorate degree, he completed externships at the Veterans Affairs Hospital and SW Blind Rehabilitation Center in Tucson, Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, and The Laser Center in Seattle. He was first introduced to optometry while spending 3 months doing volunteer work in Indonesia.
He is licensed to prescribe therapeutic agents, certified to treat glaucoma in patients over 18, and provides co-management for pre-and post-operative care in LASIK and cataract patients. Dr. Andersen loves getting out into the ocean along the beautiful Santa Barbara coastline and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Optometrist
Dr. Cailyn Katsev is a native of Santa Barbara. Practicing full scope eye care, Dr. Katsev sees patients of all ages and types. She is licensed to treat and manage visual and medical conditions of the eye, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, and cataracts. She is also licensed to prescribe specialty contact lenses, including RGP, scleral lenses, and myopia control lenses. Dr. Katsev is a resident trained optometrist, a distinction only 10% of optometrists achieve.
Dr. Cailyn Katsev received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Economy from the University of California-Berkeley in 2012 before earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry in 2017.
Dr. Cailyn Katsev has been living in St. Louis for the last seven years and has been a member of the American Optometric Association but plans on joining additional the California Optometric Association and more in the Santa Barbara County area!
Through an array of clinical externships, Dr. Katsev has extensive training in primary eye care, ocular disease, and contact lenses. Of note—she received his ocular disease experience in residency while treating veterans at the St. Louis VA Medical Center for a year after optometry school.
Dr. Katsev enjoys traveling (when allowed again), golfing, tennis, jogging, skiing with her husband, and bringing her rescue dog Bernie any place allowed!
